Little Richard at the beach...

I'm developing a terrible habit of staying up far too late, even when I know the kids will wake me up bright & early. Last night I was watching a fantastic workshop with the incredibly talented Sue Bryce and before I knew it, is was approaching midnight! Despite having less than 6 hours sleep (again!) I woke up with a spring in my step, as I had a session scheduled for 8am at Mornington Beach.

Meet Richard, a spunky little 9 month old... he was such a sweetheart.

Surprise family portrait...

Melissa contacted me a few weeks ago, wanting arrange a big family portrait for her fathers birthday. We'd planned a beautiful sunset session at Mornington Beach, for all 17 of them. Unfortunately, typical Melbourne weather... it rained... ALL day! Rescheduling wasn't an option, so we had an impromptu session in their backyard, sheltering under the gazebo from the rain. It certainly wasn't ideal, but these jokers were so fun... they didn't stop laughing! I even managed a group shot of all 9 kids in under 5 minutes!

Here is a couple of my favourites...

The McIntyre Family...

1 month ago my facebook page reached 200 'likes', so I celebrated with a competition to win a Portrait session. Along with five others, Michelle entered the competition, hoping to win so she could get a family portrait that included their beautiful newborn Eliza... and she won!

Yesterday evening we met at Mordialloc beach, and there were some serious storm clouds advancing. Thankfully, it wasn't until I was driving home that the big fat raindrops started hitting my windshield as lighting illuminated the cloudy sky ahead.

As an end note, I'd like to mention that my facebook page has gained 130 new 'likers' in the last month... so a h u g e thank you to everyone following my journey. I appreciate you all xx

Bealinda & her beautiful Zoe...

Just a quick update before bed...

I met Belinda 3 years ago in my mothers group. It was so lovely to see her & Zoe again... we met at a packed Frankston beach for a sunset session.

Something a little different...

Something you may not know about me is I am a little bit obsessed with Modern Cloth Nappies, or also known as MCN's. Cloth nappies have come a very long way since the terry squares my mum used on me 26 years ago!

I have lost count of the different nappies I have tried; fitted, all-in-ones, all-in-twos, pocket & snap in's. There are some beautiful designs, and I often get comments from admirers.

This week I reviewed a Bamboolite CM-True Fit MCN from Baby Ummi. They come in a gorgeous range of prints, very different from a lot of other popular brands.

This is the first time I have reviewed anything, so bear with me...

I was sent a Candy Pink Day Nappy, which came with clear instructions of how to use it. I used it on my gorgeous 10kilo, chunky thighed, 10 month old Lucy. After pre-washing 4 times, Lucy wore it 3 different times.

The Bamboolite's are One Size nappies, and should fit newborns right through to toilet training. Instead of snap down adjustments on the front, they have internal leg elastics that can be loosened or tightened to get a perfect fit your your bub. This was a little fiddly at first to figure out, but I think it is a fantastic feature.

The soaker pads (1 long that can be folded and 1 shorter top soaker) are made from soft bamboo cotton that snap into the shell. The top soaker is lined with suede cloth, so baby feels dry. They are very trim but still very absorbant! Lucy also did quite a revolting Number 2 while wearing it, but to my delight, it was contained within the nappy.

I really liked this nappy. Here is a list of the features I loved most:
  • Trim - normal clothes easily fit over the Bamboolite.
  • Very adjustable, without lots of press studs on the front of the nappy
  • Lined with suede cloth to keep baby feeling dry
  • Soakers made with natural fibres, bamboo also has anti-bacterial properties
  • Back & leg elastic helps contain 'poo explosions'
  • Very cute prints available
The cons:

  • Cotton outer started to wick moisture after a couple of hours on my heavy wetter
  • Drying time is a little long, but to be expected for such a highly absorbant nappy
I would be very interested to try one of the PUL outer Bamboolites, as I assume this wouldn't have the wicking issue. That is the only thing that let this nappy down for me. I still plan to use it when I am home, but it would only last 1 - 2 hours on my bubba.

Overall, great nappy! I really love the design and the prints available are sooooo... cute! If you haven't got a heavy wetter, these would easily last 3 hours, otherwise you might want to consider a PUL shell or change more frequently.

Meet precious little Saxon...

This little man is truly special.

Doctors didn't expect him to survive pregnancy, but his mama didn't give up on him. He was delivered 16 weeks early, and despite all odds is now at home with his wonderful family. Welcome to the world little man, you are so loved.

Stories like this make me feel so blessed to have two beautiful children of my own, who came into this world without any complications.

Enjoy a few of my favourite images of Saxon...

Jane + Jay { engaged }

You know when you meet someone for the first time, but you're instantly comfortable & you feel like you've met before. That is exactly how I felt the first time I met Jane & Jay. It was 3 months ago, and they had welcomed their little man Kai into the world. I had only just started photographing newborns, and I had a great time getting to know them all. Turned out we all went to the same high school... the same year!

Jay finally proposed and these guys are preparing to be married in November. They are so in love, I just know it is going to be a beautiful wedding... I can't wait!
